Block Island Bound

If you're looking for a weekend getaway, some place less crowded, that's low key, with some New England charm. One that is reminiscent of popular destinations like Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, here's one of the "last great places" to enjoy this summer.

How to get there:
Most islands are best when approached by boat. So hop on the ferry (from Rhode Island, Connecticut, or Montauk) and enjoy the ride.

Things to do/see:
Mohegan Bluffs
North Lighthouse
Kayak, stand up paddle board
Go fishing
Rent a bike and explore the island
Spend the day at the beach
Shop in town

Eat:
Winfield's (for finer dining)
Eli's (we didn't make it there but it's highly recommended)
Three Sisters (cute spot for sandwiches and cookies for lunch)
fudge! (my family made frequent stops to the candy store to get some chocolate and peanut butter fudge)
lobster rolls (go to the place closest to the ferry, it's $10 more than the one across the street but tastes much better)

Stay:
Avonlea
Blue Dory Inn
