Another beautiful day in Croatia- to wake up and not have to check the weather, what a treat! After some chocolate croissants that we became fond of having (and a bit addicted to), we headed to the marina to board Kat's parents' boat for the day. Off the coast of Dubrovnik, there are around 11,000 islands. I quickly learned that the best way to see all that the Dalmatian Coast has to offer is by sea. If you don't have access to a privately owned boat (trust me, I normally don't), you can hop on a local tour from Cavtat (or another seaside village) and visit some islands. This is something we did later on the week and we contemplated booking it the next day just to have the fresh fish lunch again but we didn't want to be on someone else's schedule.
Thru instagram we discovered that Kelly Ripa, Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen were doing just the same. They were on a boat somewhere nearby Dubrovnik. Jeff was hoping for a run-in but we had our own Andy to keep us occupied. And lucky for us, our Andy, charming Irish accent and all, had a waterproof case for his iphone. So we had some fun on and off the boat.
Back on board for lunch. Followed by relaxing and nap time (for Jeff).
Followed by more snorkeling, swimming and floating.
Amalia spent more time in the water than out of the water, our very own Croatian mermaid!
We docked and headed to Cavtat to catch the sunset from the bar. You know the bar, owned by this guy who has Kat's sister's name tattooed on his chest? That bar. They're not together now but just a reminder to think twice about getting a tattoo. Either way, our drinks were at a special price. The view from this bar arguably makes it one of the best bars I've ever been to. No question about it. And the fact that it's tucked away on the peninsula, only making accessible to those in the know, it was another hidden gem. We each claimed a tree stump and sat down to take in the sunset, watching the sun close in on another day, all the while wishing time could just stand still.
Afterwards, we walked back into Cavtat for some seafood. Cavtat is an idyllic seaside village with outdoor cafes and restaurants to your left and St. Tropez sized yachts to your right. You could linger outside hoping to be invited aboard or you can enjoy some mussels and clams in town like the rest of us.
Stay bitten ;)
