Sleeping in on a Saturday got in the way of taking an early train out to the beaches of Long Island. For the hipsters of Williamsburg, there's Rockabus. I'm told that this bus picks you up and takes you to Fort Tilden or Far Rockaway to surf, eat tacos and get some sun. Pauline and I weren't up for leaving Manhattan and Brooklyn. The pool at King & Grove, featured here, was closed for a private party at 1:30pm that day. So we searched and searched the internet for free pools and called plenty of hotels to see if they had day passes. $60 at the Holiday Inn? No thank you.
Luckily, my cousin texted me with an invite to her friend's rooftop pool in the East Village. I thought I misread her text but we walked right over, ready to move in.

We read that the James Hotel opens up their pool to the public at 3pm on weekends. Again, I had to reread what was in front of me. Free? So while Danielle and her friend headed out east in the middle of the afternoon, we headed further south to see if such a thing exists in New York. And low and behold, there was a small line outside the Jimmy. We had made it there just before the crowd began to filter into the pool.

With a live DJ and an international crowd, this was a great pool party or a place to people watch. It was no Billy Madison Day but for that Saturday, it was a cool way to cool off.

Stay bitten ;)
